Virginia Voices Submissions Website

"Virginia Voices" is a crowd-sourced documentary, presented by the Virginia Historical Society, woven from the video submissions of Virginian's across the commonwealth. Recording history as it happens. In order to make this documentary, the VHS first needed the public to participate and generate video. To accomplish this, Modea created a digital hub in the form of a website that not only encouraged participation, but directed, inspired and collected the video submissions that would ultimately become the documentary. In the end, over 200+ videos were submitted within a very short period of time.

HOMEPAGE

The site is all about video, so it only made sense that video should be a prominent design element. In this case, full-screen background video footage was used to provide a visually striking backdrop featuring real people across the state of Virginia.

Logo and identity

The logo combined film iconography and a simplified silhouette of the state of Virginia.

SHOWCASE OF EXAMPLE VIDEOS

These videos served as guides to the kinds of stories the VHS hoped to collect and provided inspiration to potential participants.

Video Submission

We wanted the steps to be very streamlined and concise. We only collected information that was the absolutely necessary. We did not want to overwhelm the user with excessive input boxes and form fields when they already had a video to create.

Responsive web layout and design

The site had to be device agnostic to promote sharing, participation and overall accessibility.
